OUR GOAL

ENDesigns has supplied ShopSteps Woodworking Plans for a wide range of totally original unique woodworking projects that are fun and different to build, published by ENDesigns since 1989.  We offer project designs with more features and refinements suitable for today that will be treasured for generations.

ShopSteps BUILDING SYSTEM

Our ShopSteps approach makes it easy for you to build seemingly complex projects in about 2-3 weeks of spare time by taking you through each step of the construction process usually on a page dedicated just to that step.

bulletFollows actual building sequence
bulletDirections focused on making individual parts and assembly
bulletExtensive 3-D graphic illustrations and photographs
bulletFull scale patterns where appropriate
bulletFurniture Joinery
bulletComprehensive wood selection guide
bulletBuilder options to individualize difficulty level on many projects
bulletCustomize projects for individual tastes
bulletRequires only ordinary shop tools
bulletStandard hardware components utilized throughout

The format of our plans has evolved from large perfect bound books, which are still available, to more flexible plastic ring bound plans that can be updated over time.  Regardless of the format, our plans are written in the shop as the project is being built.  The sequence and details of the process are noted for each shop step.  The details in our woodworking plans are not limited by the space available in magazines, supported by advertisers and subscriptions.  We collect information, often for years, on selected woodworking projects, build prototypes and refine our own unique designs before building the final project.   Even if you modify our plan significantly you will benefit from our years of effort.

ABOUT THE BUILDER

ENDesigns was founded by Chuck Hampton.  He built his first 5 hp wooden boat at age 10.  As a teenager Chuck was an apprentice to a Danish cabinet maker.  His interest in woodworking design extended into 8 years of building and driving racing boats, which achieved national prominence.  A few old photos are shown in the Photo Gallery above.  For over 40 years he has been a serious furniture designer, builder and wood turner.  In 1989 he began publishing woodworking plans, which were then sold by most of the major woodworking catalogs.   Our own web site now has a growing library of woodworking plans and detailed descriptions of each project.

Chuck has a Masters Degree from Northwestern University.  He was in marketing and international management positions at Abbott Laboratories for 15 years and a Senior Vice President of G. D. Searle for 12 years.  He founded the prepackaged prescription industry and Allscripts Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the industry leader, which became a public Company in 1999.  The Company was initially funded by major venture capital groups including Allstate Insurance.  It was taken public by Bear Stearns and Goldman Sachs.  Chuck was chosen as Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist by Inc Magazine and Arthur Young.
